Meet Xavier

When Xavier was about two years old, his parents started to notice he was walking on his toes and had trouble turning his head to one side. It took months of endless testing before the doctors were able to determine that Xavier has an incredibly rare genetic condition. This diagnosis led Xavier and his family down an uncertain path where there’s often more questions than answers.

The muscle weakness that come with this genetic condition, results in Xavier now using a wheelchair for longer distances and a walker for many day to day tasks.

After they finally received a diagnosis, Xavier’s parents began looking for ways to get him outside and involved in activities with his family and peers. Unfortunately, they ran into many roadblocks between inaccessible play spaces, denials from insurance and the high cost of adaptive products.

The Victory Scholarship Xavier received was for an adaptive bike trailer, so he could fully participate in many outdoor activities.

As Xavier’s mom said, “This scholarship is going to provide Xavier with years of access, inclusion and the ability to participate in family activities. Thank you!”
